One of the oldest sayings in the English language is "man's best friend", well in this case it is "women's best friend". One of my bright ideas while in college was getting a puppy while I lived in a dorm. As I skimmed the paper for one those post that stated "free puppy to good home" (because I was broke) how was I going to pay for food, medication, ect? Anyway as I dialed the number and asked for the last female pup, I jumped in my car to pick her up. I drove down the narrow ally, I stopped the car to see a mid-sized house with peeling off paint and a broken window. Awesome I thought, flashes of those horror movies where the college girl gets stuffed in a basement and murdered. I walked to the front door and knocked. I had a very short conversation with this man, and he left to get my new best friend.
As the man returned with a tiny brown and white puppy with brown spots of her nose, It changed my outlook on adorable. At the first moment as her untrimmed toenails and itty bitty paws touched my hand I knew I would love her forever. I took her to my car and gave her some snasusages I had bought her and slipped her tiny pink rhinestone collar with a heart shaped "Lola" charm, on her neck, a flee jumped to my hand. After a through flee dip and some puppy chow it was time to show my parents what I had "found". My dad looked at her and said "What the H**l is that". My mom's of course already new, as she said I could keep Lola at home as I finished school.
She is now 3 years old and couldn't be happier. She enjoys trips to the lake, movie nights, spa days, nap time, fairs, festivals, pet shows, among many other events. One of the most exciting is the annual "Puppy Fair" at the park. She has been there for me through many hard times as a fluffy pillow. As I will always be there for her.
